ANTIQUE 1920's PRECISION SCIENTIFIC MICRO BALANCE SCALE
Griffin & Tatlock Ltd - British made
In superb unrestored condition in original oak case!

These scales were used in anything from laboratory work to the weighing of diamonds. They are very accurate and extremely sensitive.
The scale on offer is estimated to be from the 1920's and is in superb condition, uncleaned, unrestored and working perfectly.
The scale is complete and comes with the bakelite case containing weights from 100 gram down to 5 milligram.
Judging by the empty slots in the box, 4 of the milligram weights are missing.
The oak case is in great condition, with glass panels on all four sides, of which two slide upward and can be removed.
In the image above the front panel was removed to eliminate reflections.

The base of the scale is made from bakelite and pretty much everything else is brass.
It has adjustable feet to aid leveling and the balance arm is raised or lowered by turning the brass knob in the center of the base.
The small black object lying loose with the three others in the image above, is hung by a thread from the horizontal bar below the balancing arm to help level the scale, like a plumb line.
The use of the other three objects is unknown, but they do screw into holes in the horizontal bar below the balancing arm.
Since many collectors prefer not to polish antique brass, we have left the scale as is and have not cleaned or polished anything.
Whether polished and restored to its former glory or displayed as is, it is sure to make a great display piece.
Below are detailed images of the scale and accessories. Please view them as part of the description and feel free to ask questions if unsure about anything.

The oak case measures 46cm long,  41cm high and 24cm wide.
The base of the scale measures 39cm x 15cm and it has a height of about 33cm.

I'll be happy to answer any questions as best and as quickly as possible!
Scale will be disassembled and parts individually wrapped for packaging.
Although we pack with the greatest of care using proper packaging materials, we can not guarantee that the glass panels will arrive intact.
Should a buyer wish to have this item collected by his own courier, a packaging fee will apply.
This item can not be combined.
