Antique 9ct Gold and Amber Cheroot Holder with Sterling Silver Case. London, 1916.
A WW1 era antique cheroot holder set in an elegant presentation case. The set consists of a hallmarked sterling silver engraved case with a hinged lid and a detachable amber mouthpiece with a 9ct gold band. Cheroot holders were commonly used in the 19th and early 20th centuries to hold small cigars (cheroots) or cigarettes, preventing tobacco stains on the fingers and cooling the smoke.
The case is finely crafted with intricate detailing, bears hallmarks for London, 1916 and a maker's stamp "C&A" (possibly Corke & Althorpe). The band to the amber mouthpiece is stamped "9CT GOLD". In a presentation case to "Mr. Nellan Smit". Complete and in good condition. Please see images above for more detail.
Length (cheroot holder) : 4.5cm
Length (silver case) : 6cm
Weight (silver case) : 5.9 grams
