Just in time for Octoberfest!
Background of Reservist Steins: From the 1888 until the onset of World War I, German males between the ages of 17 and 20 were obligated to serve a period of active military duty, normally two or three years, after which they became reservists, subject to recall through the age of 45. Upon completion of active duty, reservists often purchased souvenirs in remembrance of their experience, personalized beer steins being the most popular of these service mementos.
Stein History and Details: This stein belong to a reservist of the 30th Field Artillery Regiment from Rastatt in Baden-Württemberg. The reservist served from 1903 to 1905, making this stein about 120 years old!
This Dümler & Breiden (stein maker) Army Regimental Stein is model 669 (refer to base of stein and also go to Beerstein dot net)
See pictures for Google Translate for some of the text - may contain errors.
Condition: This stein is an original regimental stein, however the lid is not the original lid and is a modern replacement lid. It matches the aesthetic of the stein but the tang is clearly changed and not cleanly attached. There are hairline cracks on the handle, chipped paint in places and minor damage near the rim, but not bad for a stein that is about 120 years old (please review pictures which also forms part of the description). It will be difficult to find such a unique and rare stein outside Europe and Germany!
Please ask any questions if you wish to clarify anything or for pictures, to make a confident purchase.
You are bidding for an Antique Bavarian Reservist Stein (with modern Replacement Lid).
Prosit!
