Background: The wheelright traveler was used by blacksmith`s to measure the iron rims when making wagon wheels. after the wooden wheel was made the tool was used to measure the circumfenence of the outside wheel to determine how long to cut the iron for the rim. The one side of the tool is marked in inches up to 24 inches and has a movable arrow point to keep track of the reductions when measuring the size of the wheel. There is no manufactures mark indicating that this spesific tool was made prior to travelers tools that were mass produced in the late 1800`s. Those had manufacturers markings on them. This is therefore and excellent example of a mid 1800`s blacksmith`s wheelright tool.
