Antique Brass & Copper 'Kirtimukha - Chepu' Wall Plate
This wonderful, very early, hand beaten brass and copper wall plate is beautifully decorated in relief with the face symbols of 'Kirtimukha or Chepu' known as the 'face of glory' and 'guardian of the threshold' who is believed to ward off evil or negative energy. The brass plate features a raised copper plaque in the centre with a face of 'Chepu' in relief and three 'Chepu' faces evenly spaced around the wide border, along with three raised flowers set with a turquoise stone in each, all with scroll work in between and finished off with a thin Grecian style edge. There's a small, impressed factory stamp on the back with the letters 'J L & Co' which I've been unable to trace. This lovely piece is in great condition and measures 30cm in diameter and weighs 510g.
