This item is secondhand and in overall good antique condition. Depicting a Kitsune (fox) disguised as a priest, almost completely enveloped in its robe, only the characteristic long face peeking out, and leaning on a cane, the hands certainly that of a human. The fox-priest wears a hood in the shape of a lotus leaf and has good himotoshi through the back. Habuzosu is the name of a popular kitsune character who shapeshifted into a priest in the Kyogen play Tsurigitsune. Kitsune are creatures imbued with magical powers and are known to have the ability of shapeshifting. They are also believed to be animated by the devils. This one up for auction measures 150 mm high and is mounted on a cylindrical pedestal which measures approximately 24 mm wide. Unsigned. Please view images as part of description.
