Antique Chinese 'Wang Ping Jung' lidded baluster urn.
An absolutely gorgeous piece.
This Chinese baluster urn complete with lid is an exquisite creation and stunningly decorated with colourful Chrysanthemums, blossoming prunus trees and bamboo sprigs in beautifully raised relief and all in exceptional detail. This style of relief work is traditionally known as 'Fahua' and a distinctive trait of a Wang Ping creation.
The glaze is a hypnotic blue - green celadon hue in the famille verte style and the shape wonderfully tactile and organic.
A stunning display piece for the serious collector of Oriental art.
Pieces by Wang Ping Jung otherwise known as 'Wang Bing Rong' are rare finds and have fetched very high prices at auctions.
It probably dates to around the early part of the 19th Century.
It is in good condition for an old piece, with only a repaired hair-line crack to the side of the lid.
The inside shows signs of age related discolouring, and there is very fine crazing visible over the whole surface of the glaze. There is some minimal but noticeable age related wear underneath.
The unmistakable raised seal of turn of the century Chinese ceramicist Wang Ping Jung ( Wang Bin Rong ) - circa.1890 - early 20thC. is clearly visible at the base.
