DESCRIPTION AND CONDITION
DESCRIPTION	In the 1870s SALMON & GLUCKSTEIN started producing quality cigarettes in London and in 1897 they introduced the DANDY FIFTH cigarette brand. This is a scarce special edition tin for the DANDY FIFTH cigarettes. The tin has a hinged lid and is 14.5 cm long, 8cm wide 3 cm deep. It is not stated on the tin, but it looks as if it contained 50 cigarettes. There is an image of a soldier from the American (Maryland) 5th Regiment on the outside of the lid, which is again repeated on the inside of the lid and there is extensive wording on all the outer sides (except the bottom). The image above shows the outer lid of the tin. There are 4 more images which follow and which further illustrate this lovely tin. CONDITION	It is best to study the images to get an idea of the condition of the tin. It is generally in good collectable condition with no serious rust and with the lid hinges are functioning properly.There are some small areas of paint loss, but no wording is lost anywhere.There is some denting to the lid, which is not serious.

NOTES
A nice collectable and RARE tin which is not often seen. Salmon and Gluckstein describe their DANDY FIFTH cigarettes as 'High Class as the Original Regiment'. They were made from the 'Finest Roanoke Tobacco of Delicate Texture and Choice Flavour rolled in the Finest French Rice Paper.' It is possible that Salmon & Gluckstein named their classy cigarettes after the prestigious American Maryland 5th Regiment (established in 1867 and later renamed the 175th Infantry Regiment) out of respect - but it is more likely that they were poking fun at this Regiment with their kidskin gloves and very fancy uniforms which was called the DANDY FIFTH by the British soldiers.
