Antique Charles Perry Black Japanned And Lacquered Brass Monocular Microscope
Produced by Charles Perry, this microscope has the makers mark to the top and is numbered no.4122. I would date it to around 1920.
The microscope is housed in a mahogany case with one ocular and one eye piece. The microscope comes with a rack & pinion and screw focusing, a wheel of three lenses, a mechanical stage and a plano concave mirror.
Included in the box is a slide out draw with additional Objectives and a smaller box with additional cover slips.
Charles Perry was the foreman of Powell & Lealand who ceased manufacturing microscopes in 1901, after which he went to work for C. Baker of High Holborn and later started up himself as Charles Perry of 41, Northolme Road, Highbury, North London. Whether he had his own factory or had instruments made to his specification by Watsons is unclear.
~ Condition ~
The box is in good overall condition. The body of the microscope appears to have little wear or damage, and is in an excellent condition for it's age.
This is quite a rare antique microscope from Europe (London) and was purchased from a little antique shop in Wellington. They told me this was acquired from a Vet from the area who had passed on and the family made it available to them to sell.
If you are a scientific instrumenataioncollector, this would make a fine addition. It would also make a great show piece in someone medical practice!
There is a small chip out of the outside of the rear of the box that is not bad for the age.
