Antique Crestella carbide lamp. This old lamp would have originally been used by a miner or railways worker. It operated by by detaching the removable base which would be unscrewed and filled with marble-sized pellets of calcium carbide. The top tank would then be filled with wated, which dripped onto the carbide creating acetylene gas which could be lit at the burner tip. This old lamp has brass fittings, and the brass plate showing that it was manufactured by the Crestella Engineering Co Ltd in Leeds. The lamp is in good condition for its age (c1900), except that the reflector glass is missing and pins have been replaced. All working parts open. Great buy for the collector.
