Stunning Antique Daguerreotype
The daguerreotype is a unique image on a silver copper plate named after the inventor, Louis Jacques Mande Daguerre. It was known as the first commercially successful photographic process (1839-1860). This particular one is in fantastic original condition without any restoration. The image is of a lady dressed in clothing of that period, which is housed in a leather/wooden case, lined with velvet on the one side. There are some scuff marks on the leather work. The case has the makers mark SKEOLAN ARTIST 77A MARKET ST. MANCHESTER. The research on this artist makes for very interesting reading. I have provided a link below. This piece dates to around 1854 and measures 12cm x 9.5cm.
