Up for auction is a fascinating piece of late-Victorian/Edwardian social and industrial history.
This antique sugar of jam spoon was manufactured in Birmingham, England, by the renowned firm Daniel & Arter at their Globe Nevada Silver Works. What makes this specific piece highly collectible is a rare, documented factory manufacturing flaw: the stamp clearly reads "NEJAVA SILVER" instead of "NEVADA SILVER" caused by a damaged or mis struck steel factory die.
Despite the trade name, "Nevada Silver" was Daniel & Arter's proprietary Nicle copper alloy - please note this item is a collectable base-metal and contains no solid precious silver.
Terminal Pseudo-Hallmarks:
Features the iconic D&A shield their registered knight's helmet trademark (which commonly looks like a stylized "clown" or "jester" face followed by the individual Maker letter "D" in a circle "&" and "A" in round squares.
This item is the ideal size for a sugar spoon or a jam spoon.
