This is a typical example of the ceramic inkwell which fitted into the school desks form the 1890s up to the 1950s. It would be filled with ink and one would then dip one's dip pen in and write. The inkwell is 4cm in height and in excellent condition, other than a minor nick below the rim, as shown in the photograph.
