ORIGINAL DRESDEN (CARL THIEME HIGHLY RATED ANTIQUE MARK) GERMANY1920S PORCELAIN FIGURINE ADVERTISING YARDLEYS OLD ENGLISH LAVENDER PRODUCTS31CM HIGH

ANTIQUE 1920S DRESDEN PORCELAIN (HAS THE HIGHLY RATED CARL THIEME 1902 ANTIQUE MARK IMPRESSED ON BOTTOM) YARDLEY'S OLD ENGLISH LAVENDER ADVERTISING FIGURINE 31CM HIGH OF A LAVENDER SELLER AND TWO CHILDREN.
THESE WERE MADE FOR DISPLAY IN PHARMACY SHOPS TO ADVERTISE YARDLEY LAVENDER PRODUCTS. THIS YARDLEY'S OLD ENGLISH LAVENDER FIGURINE FEATURING MOM WITH HER TWO ASSISTANTS SELLING LAVENDER WERE USED INTHE 1920'S AS AN ADVERTISING COUNTER DISPLAY FOR LAVENDER SOAP.
This advertising figurine is truly charming. A mother and her two children have obviously been out gathering the flower. The mother has a basket full of the flowers as well as holding some sprigs in her left hand. The child on the right, also has a full basket. All dressed in attractive 19th Century country clothes.
THE FIGURINE IS BASED ON A SERIES OF PAINTINGS BY THE ARTIST FRANCIS WHEATLEY IN THE 1790S, KNOWN AS THE CRIES OF LONDON, FEATURING A VARIETY OF STREET TRADERS SELLING THEIR PRODUCTS. ALTHOUGH BETTER KNOWN NOW AS LAVENDER SELLERS THROUGH THE POWER OF ADVERTISING, THE THREE FIGURES WERE ORIGINALLY PAINTED AS CARRYING BASKETS OF YELLOW PRIMROSES.
DRESDEN MARK: TWO CURSIVE LETTERS INTERTWINED WITH DRESDEN UNDERNEATH. THIS PARTICULAR MARK IS A SÄCHSISCHE PORZELLAN (SP) MARK USED FROM 1902 TO THE 1930S.
DRESDEN PORCELAIN: Carl-Johann Gottlob Thieme started in 1864 in Dresden a porcelain and antique shop. In September1872 he established a porcelain factory named Sächsische Porzellan-Fabrik Carl Thieme zu Potschappel. GENERALLY KNOWN IN ENGLISH AS DRESDEN PORCELAIN, IS A GERMAN COMPANY FOR THE PRODUCTION OF DECORATIVE AND LUXURY PORCELAIN. It is located in Potschappel, a suburb of the town of Freital about 8 km southwest of Dresden the capital of Saxony in Germany.
