ANTIQUE EARLY 1900's RUBY AND DIAMOND
9CT YELLOW GOLD RING
This English vintage piece is a solid 9ct yellow band with a small round cut diamond "star set" in the centre, flanked by 2 x small round cut, "gypsy set" rubies. The ring dates back to somewhere between 1900 and 1930's. The 9ct yellow gold shank is narrower at the back and is softly curved on the outside of the shank. The ring head measures 17mm across x 3.5mm long x 1.5mm above the finger. The actual gold band is lovely and thick, which gives the ring a good solid weight of 3.88 grams. It sits snugly and comfortably on the finger. The style and setting dates the ring to the first quarter of the 20th century. However, the hallmarks are worn smooth, sadly making it impossible to give specific details. I found it in the hands of an antique jeweller in England who explained to me that during the early 1900's, it was not uncommon to set precious stones into a wedding band in order to combine engagement and wedding without buying a second ring. Rather a special vintage piece with a story to tell! It would make a lovely wedding ring with a difference or just an unusual piece of English history for the collection.
