On auction is this hallmarked solid Sterling Silver Vesta Case!
Also known as a match safe, it has a striker underneath.
These cases were used to protect matches (vestas) which were very combustible.
This case has a ring attached for use as a watch fob or pendant.
The lid snaps shut tightly.
It is marked on the inside edge with the English Hallmark for Birmingham 1900 and the maker's stamp "J R".
The case measures 4.4 cm tall by 2.8 cm wide.
It weighs 20.2 grams.
This case is in very good Estate condition with no major flaws and only minimal signs of normal wear ( a flea-bite dent on the lower side above the striker ).
