Antique flintlock pistol 1827

This homemade pistol dates from the Greek War of Independence !821-1829.

I bought it from an innkeeper in Tsangarada on the Pelion Peninsula in Greece in 1982.

He explained to me that when the Greeks rose up against the  Ottomans/Turks in 1827, they had very few firearms, which had been illegal under the Turkish occupation. The guerillas  were forced to make their own relatively simple weapons. This exquisite pistol in one such weapon.

The Greeks were successful in their bid for independence!

Although over 200 years old it is in remarkably good condition.
