Antique French Brass 'Bookbinding Type Tool' (J. Prevost)

This early, French, brass bookbinding tool or 'Type Holder' is used to capture brass letters for embossing or gilding letters onto the surface of the cover. It is impressed with the makers details 'J. PREVOST, PARIS, 7.R. JOQUELET' and the number '14'. The tool appears to be missing some type of wooden handle, otherwise it's in good condition. It measures12,4cm x 12,4cm x 1cm and weighs 205g.
