ANTIQUE GENTLEMANS MOUSTACHE (1900-1930) CUP AND SAUCER BY GERMAN PORZELLANFABRIK KALK EISENBURG

IN AN AGE NOT SO LONG AGO MANY GENTLEMAN SHOWCASED A PROPERLY MANICURED MOUSTACHE. OF COURSE THE HAIRY BRISTLES CAME IN THE WAY OF THE MORNINGS CUP OF TEA.
AND THE MOUSTACHE CUP WAS BORN TO ACCOMMODATE.
 
AN ANTIQUE (1900-1930) KALK EISENBURG HANDPAINTED (PLEASE SEE PHOTOS AND PAINTER NUMBERS ON UNDERSIDE) BLUE MOUSTACHE CUP AND SAUCER DUO. THE CUP HAS A INNOVATIVE RESTING PLATFORM FOR A GENTLEMANS MOUSTACHE IN ORDER TO DRINK HIS TEA.
 
ITS A WHITE PORCELAIN CUP AND SAUCER WITH HAND PAINTED BLUE DECORATION. THE SAUCER IS SIMILARLY DECORATED. WE HAVE A MISMATCHED PAIR THOUGH NOT BY COMPANY, NOR BY PATTERN BUT BY TIME: THE SAUCER IS OLDER THAN THE CUP BY A FEW YEARS AS INDICATED BY THE BLUE ARROW MARKS.

CONDITION: CUP: NO CHIPS. NO CRACKS. IN GOOD CONDITION.
SAUCER: TWO RIM CHIPS ON UNDERSIDE. HAIRLINE CRACKS VISIBLE. STILL IN TACT THOUGH.
 
EARLY KALK EISENBURG BLUE ARROW MARK FROM BETWEEN 1900-1930:
Initially (1900-1930),  as a porcelain mark. The arrows each have a tip indicated by an angled line and feathering at the end of the shaft - usually, but not always, indicated by three angled lines. The numbers provided - Roman or Arabic - probably served to account for the blue painters. 
The  (right) were used for identification from after mid-1925.  Around 1930, the mark stamped with downward pointing arrows at right angles surrounded by concentric circles was used.
The writing in cursive  (right) was added in 1933.
Around 1947, the porcelain mark stamped on the glaze was changed in such a way that the .
Around 1957, the words Kobalt Blue or Made in GDR was added below the downward pointing arrows.
THE CUP IS MARKED ON THE UNDERSIDE WITH A LATER 1925-1930 CROSSED BLUE ARROWS AT RIGHT ANGLES POINTING UPWARD WITH A PAINTER NUMBER OF 22. THE SAUCER IS MARKED ON THE UNDERSIDE WITH AN OLDER 1900-1925 CROSSED BLUE ARROWS AT ACUTE ANGLES POINTING UPWARD WITH A PAINTER NUMBER OF 45.

PORZELLANFABRIK KALK G.m.b.H. (1900-1976): 
Porzellanfabrik Kalk G.m.b.H. was created after the merger of two other entities: Porzellanfabrik Geyer & Körbitz and Porzellanfabrik Kalk G.m.b.H. G.A. Seiffert.
The first company Geyer and Korbitz was established in 1882 in Eisenberg (Germany near Dresden) by two enterpreneurs Geyer & Körbitz. They started porcelain production in 1890. Körbitz died in 1900 and was replaced in the company by his wife Martha. The second firm was established in Kalk Germany (near Cologne) in 1899 by G.A. Seiffert. 
They merged in 1900 creating Porzellanfabrik Kalk G.m.b.H. The Kalk factory was closed in 1930 but the Eisenberg factory continued manufacturing porcelain.
Production was continued after the WWII but it was partially nationalized by the East Germans in 1958 and supervized by V.E.B. ( Vereinigte Porzellanwerke Kahla). In 1973 the factory was completely nationalized and three years later in 1976 it was closed.
