Antique German Gesteckpfeife style smoking pipe - unused. Also known as a Jaeger Pipe, German hunter pipe, German Porcelain pipe, Tyrolean pipe, and Wine Pipe, I would date this pipe to the early 1900s. The pipe has a porcelain bowl and resevoir (or abguss) - the bowl would be packed with tobacco, and the resevoir was sometimes filled with wine to flavour the tobacco. The bowl has a plated hinged lid. The stem is made from a wood stem, and the tip appears to be horn or bone. The bowl is handpainted with a 2 men on horseback and a third rearing horse. The pipe is large measuring 34cm long, and is in good (unused) condition. Great buy for the collector.
