FEATURING A CENTRAL REPOUSSE RELIEF PANEL WITH A GROUP OF YOUNG BOYS PLAYING AMONGST FOLIAGE AND AN INCISED AND ENGRAVED FOREST SETTING. FURTHER EMBELLISHED BY A RAISED PIERCED OPENWORK TRLLIS FRAME WITH EXOTIC BIRDS AND ROSES AND LEAFY SCROLLS.

Mark with Imperial Crown, Sun and Crescent the German Stamp Act of 1884 
When the German Empire was founded after the defeat of France in 1871, a whole series of laws were passed to create the national legal framework that the newly created state needed for its economic prosperity. One such law was the Stamp Act introduced in 1884, which stipulated the markings on gold and silver items.
The Imperial Silver Hallmark consists of the Imperial Crown to the right of the crescent moon, the indication of the fineness in thousandths and the indication of the company name or trademark of the business for which the hallmark is being used.
By stamping with the Imperial Gold or Imperial Silver Hallmark, conformity with the "Law on the Fineness of Gold and Silverware" was confirmed.
The choice of the sun disk for gold and the crescent moon for silver followed the traditional symbolic language of alchemy, which was closely linked to astrology for centuries.
