Antique Gilded Porcelain Soup Bowl Circa 1850-1870 Ref. No. P44

On offer is this stunning transfer-printed, hand clobbered  porcelain Soup Bowl, depicting a single central bird surrounded by pink flowers with green foliage. Heavily gilded with a blue outer rim and a moulded and scalloped rim it remains in very good condition throughout. No maker's name, which was common in this time period, but,  although we cannot accurately determine the maker, other clues from the plate tell us its possible age.
Look carefully at the plate and you will see small brown-black 'spots', revealing that the plate would have been coal-fired.  Now look at the glazing - in the late 1700's to the early 1800's,  glazing was still a bit of a 'hit and miss'  technique. Early glazing was very thick and left 'ripple' marks. The plate above shows fairly good glazing but it is slightly thick and has numerous tiny bubbles giving a typical ‘orange-peel’ effect which would suggest it is from the mid 1800's.
The bowl remains in a very good overall condition showing little sign of wear and the gilding still very much intact. There is a small chip to the rim. No heavy wear marks are evident. A written number, '943' appears on the reverse, possibly the pattern number, whilst a small letter ‘O’ also found, is likely that of the painter. Heavy stilt marks (from stacking the plate in the furnace) are also present.   The plate has a diameter of 26.2 cm and stands 2.5 cm high with a slightly scalloped and fluted rim.

Please Note, I am NOT a qualified archaeologist/antiquarian and the description I have given is based on research of the subject.  This is a genuine antique. The classification of an 'antique' is that it should be 100 years old, OR MORE. There are many articles being offered as 'antiques' when, clearly, they are not.
