Lovely Antique 'Reverse Painting on Glass' of 'Groote Schuur'
This wonderful, South African, antique reverse painting on convex glass of 'Groote Schuur' is mounted in a solid, dark wooden oval frame with lovey hand carved detail. It's a beautifully painted picture of the entrance to 'Groote Schuur' with the gardens, featuring lovely detail and colour. 'Groote Schuur' (Dutch for 'big shed') was the Cape Town estate originally owned by the 'Dutch East India Company' in 1657 and was bought in 1893 by Cecil Rhodes. From 1910 to 1984, it was the official Cape residence of the Prime Ministers of South Africa and is now a museum which is open to the public. This lovely painting and frame is in great condition and measures 61cm x 40cm and weighs 3,2kg.
