Antique Gustav Becker Mantel Clock in Mahogany Case. Working Condition.
A Gustav Becker mantel clock, likely from the late 19th or early 20th century. The clock features a classic arched wooden case with a polished mahogany finish, supported by small brass feet. The front has a beveled glass door with brass trim, protecting the silvered dial and movement. The main dial has a minimalist design with black hands. The numerals or markers have faded or worn with time. There is a smaller subdial at the top, which is a slow/fast regulator adjustment for fine-tuning the movement. The case has a solid wooden structure with pillar details. The brass elements on the corners and feet add an elegant touch. The hinged glass door allows easy access to the clock face and winding mechanism. Please note the door catch needs to be replaced / repaired. The mechanism is clearly stamped with the Gustav Becker "anchor with crown" and "GB" logo. The clock runs well and chimes on the half-hour and hour.Size : 25.5 x 19 x 14cm
Gustav Becker (1819-1885) was a renowned German clockmaker known for producing high-quality and affordable timepieces. He established his clockmaking business in 1847 in Freiburg, Silesia (now Świebodzice, Poland). After winning a gold medal at the 1852 Silesian Trade Exhibition, his reputation grew, leading to increased demand and expansion of his workshop. Becker's company specialized in precision regulators, wall clocks, and later, popular pendulum clocks. By the late 19th century, his factory was one of Germanys largest clock manufacturers. In 1885, after his death, the company continued operations and later merged with the Vereinigte Freiburger Uhrenfabriken in 1899, eventually becoming part of Junghans in the 1930's. His clocks remain highly collectable today. Please see images above for more detail.
