Incredibly rare Victorian hand mirror with original bevelled mirror in good condition - silver plated. The silver is is very good condition with no sign of any wear. One wonders who the wealthy victorian lady was that held this handle to gaze at her image? Looks like the original Fairy Tale mirror - with grotesque faces and beautiful swallows. It is decorated throughout in the roccoco style with foliage, acanthus, birds and faces of the Green Man, the pagan wild man of the woods. The cartouche is slightly dented and it has a couple dents around the mirrow frame. The mirrow has a couple spots and a little corrosion near the frame. But otherwise it is in beautiful antique condition. Size: Length 28cm x width of mirrow 15.5cm. It is doubtful that today a silver artisan would or could possibly spend the time necessary to create this fabulous piece of silver artistry.
