Antique Ironstone Clobbed Transfer Covered Dome Cheese Dish (c. 1880 - 1885)
This Antique Ironstone Clobbed Transfer Covered Dome Cheese Dish dates back to 1880 - 1885. The dome is shaped to accommodate a cheese wedge and features a handle shaped like a twisted branch. The floral transfers have been overpainted ("clobbed") in bright magenta and mustard yellow, with dark green leaves. The underplate has a 1" ribbed edge extending from the sides where it is covered. There are two air vent holes on the top, located underneath the handle. The dome's bottom edge and handle are edged in gold, although much of the gold has eroded over time. There is paint loss in a few spots, underplate crazing, and some glaze loss on the underplate.
Measurements:
The figurine has wear to the image and has had a repair to the edge of the tray. It also has a few surface hairline cracks as per photos. Despite these flaws, it remains a great item considering its age.
