Antique Japan Meiji Period Ironwood Okimono Lamps (Set of 2) Hand-Carved Shou Lao Statues, Large & Small (67cm & 34cm)
This is a stunning set of two antique Japan Meiji Period (circa 1840-1912) Okimono lamps, masterfully carved from ironwood. Both pieces display intricate craftsmanship and are rooted in traditional Japanese art, offering a unique blend of history and beauty.
Large Lamp (67cm)
This imposing, hand-carved wooden statue features a bald, bearded figure of Shou Laothe god of longevityholding a scroll adorned with a yin-yang symbol of two fish. Below the scroll, a majestic crane bird perches by his side, symbolizing long life and wisdom. The statue has been cleverly carved from what appears to be a natural root, giving it an organic, rustic feel. It comes with a light fitting but no electrical cable. Despite some visible cracks, they do not affect the integrity or structure of the piece, adding to its antique charm.
Small Lamp (34cm)
This smaller statue also features a traditional Japanese root carving, echoing the same solid, heavy craftsmanship as its larger counterpart. It has a light fitting with an untested old cable. Similar to the larger lamp, some cracks are present in the wood, yet they do not compromise its durability or appeal.
Both pieces are extremely solid and heavy, bearing the natural wear and marks of age that make them true antique treasures. These lamps are captivating works of art, perfect for collectors of Japanese and oriental antiques.
