Antique 'Prismatic Compass & Clinometer' (Negretti & Zambra - London)
This unusual, seldom seen, antique brass combined prismatic compass and clinometer, also known as an 'Angle of Sight' instrument comes with its original leather case, and was probably made around the late 1800's or early 1900's. It was manufactured by 'NEGRETTI & ZAMBRA' based in London, who produced optical and scientific instruments. This type of instrument was often used by civil engineers and also artillery regiments in the British army for range and trajectory calculations to target heavy guns. This scarce instrument is quite a heavy piece for its size and appears to be in excellent condition with a functioning dial. The main body has a diameter of 70mm with a depth of 20mm, and with outer pieces measures 100mm x 80mm and weighs 448g with case.
