This incredibly early, well-made pocket folding roundlet carriage key, which was used by Railway porters, is in excellent condition for its age. It has a lovely family crest and initials engraved on the one side. The crest, which I discovered upon research, is the 'Wyndham' family crest which includes the Pleydell, Bouverie and Campbell families. The motto, which is engraved through the initials, reads 'PATRIA CARA, CARIOR LIBERTAS' and means 'My country is dear, but liberty is dearer.' This is a lovely piece of Railwayana with a bit of history. It measures 7.7cm x 1.5cm (folded) and weighs 57.3g.
