18ct YELLOW GOLD. BIRMINGHAM ASSAY

This beautiful piece from a bygone era is in amazingly good condition. The 0,24 carat solitaire ruby is claw set in 18k yellow gold and framed by 14 x 1,5 mm rose cut white diamonds - a faceting style rarely used these days but popular from the 1500's. The colour combination in this ring is particularly striking - the white of the diamonds, the deep red of the ruby and the strong yellow of the 18ct gold. Its a beautifully proportioned piece and surprisingly solid to handle. It weighs 4,2 grams and the shank itself is distinctly heavy.

The ring's pedigree within the hallmarks is still easy to read. There is the royal crown and the "18" for 18ct gold, the Birmingham Assay mark, the date mark for 1899 and the jeweller signature, which is not completely legible. It is a very appealing piece of English history.
