Antique 'Silver & Cut-Crystal Hair Tidy' (Chester 1912)
This lovely, cut-crystal hair tidy/vanity jar with a solid silver lid is in super condition with a snug fitting lid. It is English hallmarked for Chester 1912 and made by silversmiths 'Joseph & Richard Griffin' (J & RG). The entire crystal jar is beautifully hand-cut in the popular 'hobnail' pattern with a star-cut base. The lid has been engraved with three initials and the date '1914'. It measures 6,5cm in diameter, stands 7,3cm in height and has a nice weight of 200g.
Note: Hair tidies were kept on the dressing table during the Victorian era and beyond, to store hair removed from brushes and combs. Nowadays they can be used for cotton wool etc.
