Antique Silver Handled Hallmarked Button Hook

Antique Victorian button or boot hook, with sterling silver handle. I thought it was some kind of sewing hook and had to do a little research!

A patent from 1876 describes the button hook as an instrument to facilitate the buttoning of shoes, gloves, and like purposes.

I have such a soft spot for these extremely specific little gadgets.

The hook is made from steel and the handle is sterling silver. The Handle does have a dent on it, please see pictures
