Antique Steel Cup, Scoop and Shaker Rarely Seen Items

A GROUP OF ANTIQUE STEEL KITCHENALIA OR CAMPFIRE ITEMS. A STEEL CUP, A STEEL GRAIN FEED OR MIELIE MEAL SCOOP AND A STEEL SHAKER. ALL ARE HAND MADE AND OF AN AGE WHEN PLASTIC HAS NOT COME TO DOMINATE OUR WORLD. THE SCOOP IS EMBOSSED MARKED KXCX ON UNDERSDE.
 
Simple, practical metal cups have been used for centuries for drinking, camping, or other outdoor activities.
 
Back in the day, utilitarian handmade steel scoops were found in every household, barn and shed. From scooping grain, to soil, to dried beans or flour - everybody had them.
 
Authentic antique or vintage steel and metal shakers are rare, as corrosion made them impractical for holding salt for an extended period. Before the introduction of anti-caking agents in 1911, salt had a tendency to clump and corrode containers. As a result, early shakers were usually made of glass or ceramic to prevent rust. Hence this old battered shaker with attached handle was most propably used in an outdoor setting.
