Antique 'Telegraphs Works' Galvanometer (Silvertown - London)

This unusual, very early, interesting piece was made around the turn of the century, by 'Telegraphs Works' Silvertown in London. I believe it to be a very early 'Galvanometer' or something similar, for sending and receiving electronic messages over early telegraph lines, but please refer to my photographs, as I'm not an authority in this field. This unusual piece is mounted and housed in a dark mahogany wooden case, but is missing its cover on the back, and other than the glass missing on the top dial window it is in a good, aged condition and appears to be intact. It measures 19,3cm x 10,3cm, stands 31cm high and weighs 2,67kg.
