DESCRIPTION:
An ivory glazed earthenware bread / side plate, decorated with a puce transfer-printed
scene of a dying young man attended by his family, within an embossed floral border.
MARKS:
Impressed W. S. & Co. (William Smith & Co. (Stafford Pottery), Stockton-on-Tees, Yorkshire,
England), Queen's Ware and Stockton. Printed puce number 6 or 9. In 1848 Josiah Wedgwood
obtained an injunction preventing this firm using the name Wedgewood & Co. or Vedgewood.
CONDITION:
Glaze chips, staining to base and wear to rim, commensurate with age and utilitarian use.
DIMENSIONS:
Approximately 18 cm diameter X 2 cm height.
