Antique 'Woodstock' Glass Rummer (Kimberley 1892)
This very early, rare, large 'Woodstock' hand-blown rummer or wine glass from the late 1800's is beautifully decorated with 'fret and zigzag' patterns and hand engraved 'Kimberley Exhibition 1892' on one side and 'Aunt Emily' on the other. It was acquired at the 'South African International Exhibition' in Kimberley in 1892, where the 'Woodstock' glass factory probably had a stand. The 'Woodstock' glass company was South Africa's first glass factory, which was established around 1879 in Woodstock, formerly Papendorp, in Cape Town. It stands 14,5cm high, with a round foot diameter of 7,1cm, a rim diameter of 7,5cm, and weighs 212g. The wine glass or rummer is in excellent condition and appears to have hardly been used.
