Design and Display
The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus maintain screen sizes of 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches, respectively, featuring Super Retina XDR OLED displays with a full-edge design and slim borders. A design shift reintroduces a vertical camera alignment, reminiscent of the iPhone 12, facilitating spatial video capture.
Performance
Equipped with the new A18 Bionic chip, the iPhone 16 series delivers a 30% performance boost over its predecessor, enhancing both speed and energy efficiency. This chip is optimised for running large generative AI models, with a Neural Engine twice as fast as before.
Camera System
The iPhone 16 features a 48-megapixel Fusion wide-angle lens and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, both aligned vertically. This configuration supports spatial video capture and improved low-light performance. The Pro models offer additional camera capabilities, including a 5x zoom camera and larger screens.
Battery Life
Battery capacity has been enhanced across the lineup. The iPhone 16 offers up to 22 hours of video playback, while the 16 Plus extends this to 27 hours. MagSafe wireless charging has been updated, allowing for faster charging speeds of 25W with a 30W power adapter.
New Features
A notable addition is the customisable Action Button, replacing the traditional mute switch, allowing users to assign various functions such as launching the camera or toggling focus modes. The Camera Control button provides quick access to camera features, enhancing the photography experience.
Software and AI Integration
All models run on iOS 18, introducing Apple Intelligencea suite of advanced AI features. While the initial rollout of these features is gradual throughout 2025, they aim to enhance user experience through improved on-device AI capabilities.
