Description: 1960s Arabia Finland "Anemone" Hand-Painted Stoneware Cup & Saucer Set
BRAND NOTICE: Selling online nationwide under our official brand name. Inventory is updated daily and live stock availability depends entirely on current store inventory across platforms.
Mid-century cup and matching saucer set showcases the highly sought-after, deeply saturated cobalt blue "Anemone" pattern hand-painted on a signature grey-white stoneware base. Designed by ceramic pioneer Ulla Procopé, the heavy vitrified body features bold, fluid floral brushstrokes on the cup exterior and a thick accent band running along the saucer rim, all covered in a high-gloss glaze that reflects ambient room lighting beautifully. The cup is anchored by a sturdy, comfortable D-shaped integrated handle, demonstrating premier Scandinavian functionalism.
Original Intended Use: Premium morning coffee cup, formal tea service set, or breakfast hot chocolate vessel. Alternate Suggested Use: Floating shelf visual vignette display or independent open kitchen cabinet accent staging.
Made in Finland, circa 1962-1974, making this stoneware cup set 52+ years old.
The cup base features the authentic hand-painted underglaze signature "ARABIA FINLAND" alongside the professional artist initials "UP/HN" in deep indigo script, while the saucer displays a blurred factory backstamp.
Did you know? Because every piece in the iconic Arabia Finland "Anemone" collection was painted completely by hand in the Helsinki studios, no two brushstrokes are identical. Master glaze decorators used thick ox-hair brushes to sweep the concentrated cobalt across the spinning pottery wheels, resulting in small, beautiful natural variations in transparency and depth that allow discerning collectors to trace the unique touch of the individual artisan.
Approximate Dimensions: Cup Height 5.5cm, Cup Diameter 10cm, Saucer Diameter 16cm.
Condition: Fair to Good vintage condition.
Visible Flaws: The saucer is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or heavy usage scratches. The cup features a perfectly clean, glossy interior with no metal utensil tracking. However, the top rim of the cup exhibits two distinct post-production chipsmeasuring approximately 3mm and 4mm respectivelylocated on opposite sides of the outer lip line, which have been factored into the heavily reduced pricing.
