The compiler, Felix Stark is known for editing and publishing commemorative books on Johannesburg and other South African cities. His most prominent work related to Johannesburg is Seventy Golden Years, 18861956.which he edited and published 1956 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Johannesburg. Published by Felstar Publishing: The book was published by Felstar Publishing, a division of which was the Municipal Public Relations Bureau.

The book, written in both English and Afrikaans, documents the history and economy of Johannesburg, and is profusely illustrated with photographs. It was published with the official permission of the City Council of Johannesburg and the Johannesburg Publicity Association. The book is a snapshot of a proud city at the 70- year mark, a city where there, at the time, was no meaningful non-white representation.
