Ariel's dream has come true! She can become a human, but it will not be easy. She doesn't succeed in kissing the prince before the deadline, so Ursula pulls her back into the sea. A lot happens before she finally gets to become a human.
Ursula becomes the Sea Sovereign, gets Triton to exchange his soul for Ariel's just as Ariel falls into a maelstrom, triggered by Ursula. Finally, Ariel kills Ursula by ramming the bow of a ship into her heart.
Since Ursula is no longer alive, all the sea creatures she trapped are set free, but Ariel is still sad because she cannot be with Eric. When Triton recognizes how much Ariel loves Eric, he gives her a life as a human being.
