Ark Bear 1950/60’s

Ark bears were manufactured in South Africa from the early 1950’s. They were undoubtedly copied from British Chiltern bears. The quality of Ark bears varies greatly.  The finest Ark Bears rival Chiltern bears. They are sometimes mistaken by novice collectors and auction houses – even in the UK - for Chilterns. The telltale sign is the manner in which Ark Bear have their ears attached to the head. Chiltern bears always had their cupped ears sown into the facial seams. This is a fine quality Ark Bear, made of the pure mohair with glass eyes and rexine pads. His tilt growler is in place and works perfectly. He has the lovely drumstick thighs like Chilterns. He is five-ways jointed; in all original condition. At 78 cm he is a big bear. Please add R55 for postage.
