Description: Armand Marseille bisque 'My Dream Baby' C1925. Ref.TO4
Make: Armand Marseille
Date: Early 1920s
History: Armand, born in Russiain 1856, moved to Bavaria with his parents. Around the year 1883, he purchased the M. Lambert Toy Factory and in 1885 he purchased the porcelain factory belonging to Liebermann and Wegescher. In 1890 he had produced his first dolls' head. Armand Marseille became one of the worlds largest suppliers of dolls heads between the 1900s and 1930.
Description: Typical bisque infant head with painted hair, open mouth and blue-grey sleep eyes on a composition body. The bisque head is marked AM Germany 351. Please take note of the unusual depiction of the ' A ' in the A.M. logo as well as the word 'Germany' which has a line above it. This mould mark appeared in the early 1920s. Also take note of the composition body, marked Sch 40, the 40 indicating the length of the doll in cm.
Condition: The head remains in relatively good condition but there is a fine hairline crack from the mouth to underneath the cheek. The body does show signs of wear missing paint and with slight damage to the fingers and the base of the body see photos
Dimensions: The doll stands just over 40 cm in height.
