NUMBER 183 OF AN EDITION OF 500 COPIES, Warren Siebrits Modern and Contemporary Art, gallery catalogue no.4, softcover, illustrated, 20.2 cms x 20.2 cms, condition: very good.

Warren Siebrits is a walking library of contemporary art his vast knowledge and approach to collecting and advising artists stands as a testament to his prowess in the industry. Warren is an avid collector of contemporary art and purchased his first William Kentridge in 1990. He has a fascination with music and has blended his analysing skills of both art and music to understand the contemporary art scene in a new and unique manner. Siebrits has also been an art dealer and ran his own gallery from 2002-2009.
A former curator at the influential Everard Read Contemporary, circa State of the Art in the early 90s, Siebrits is best remembered for his quirky Metroplex Gallery. Situated in an empty window display, his impromptu gallery showcased important works by the likes of Wopko Jensma, Wayne Barker and Sandile Zulu. His decision to finally open a 'legitimate' gallery, in the old Camouflage space opposite the road from the Goodman, came at a time when lower Rosebank was being rebuilt and redefined. Not only had David Krut publishing moved in nearby but also a whole host of trendy design studios up the drag have reclaimed the commons after a prolonged lull.
