ART DECO!! MALING MOORCROFT STYLE POTTERY LARGE FRUIT BOWL - 1930s - NEWCASTLE-ON-TYNE ENGLAND 1762 - 1963.
A Beautiful vintage 1930's Art-Deco wild poppy design fruit bowl. The bowl is all hand painted with colour/color enamels. Early 20th century including black back stamp with the castle, pattern number and artist/maker mark.
Maling pottery was produced, first in Sunderland and later in Newcastle upon Tyne, from 1762 to 1963. Initially, there is little to distinguish Maling ware from that of any other local factory in the north east England. However, the discovery of a way to make jars and other containers by machine bought major income. This allowed the opportunity to expand the product of decorated wares. As an example, china was imported from Staffordshire and Limoges. This china was then decorated in Newcastle and sold under the Maling name. In the early 20th century, the pottery also used the trade name of "Cetem" (a phonetic spelling of the initials CTM - CT Maling & Sons.
