Art Deco Max Factor's Society Make-Up Hollywood Rouge 'Flame' compact with two rouge cartridges. The compact is made of brass and enamel with a mirror in the lid, 4.2 cms wide, all in good condition including mirror, the rouge could be taken out and container used as a pill box. Max Factor immigrated to the USA in 1904 from Poland and initially provided cosmetics to the film industry, in the early years he personally applied his products to actors and actresses such as Ben Turpin, Gloria Swanson, Bette Davis, Joan Crawford and Judy Garland to name a few. In 1920 he gave in to his brother Frank Factor's suggestion and officially began referring to his products as 'make-up', until then only the term 'cosmetics' had been used.
