Art Deco Sterling Silver, Onyx and Marcasite Clip-on Earrings

These are a striking pair of vintage sterling silver clip-on earrings, designed with bold geometric styling. Each earring is shaped as a large teardrop shield featuring glossy black onyx cabochon elements at the top and bottom. The onyx is further accented by a smaller, raised, teardrop-shaped onyx bezel-set within a silver frame at the centre. Surrounding the central stone and across the horizontal band are numerous sparkling marcasite stones, pave-set into the silver to create a glittering contrast with the deep black onyx. The earrings are crafted from solid sterling silver, confirmed by the "925" stamp on the clips. They are fitted with sturdy clip-on backs, making them suitable for non-pierced ears. The backs are well-made and typical of mid-20th-century craftsmanship. The combination of onyx and marcasite is characteristic of Art Deco revival jewellery, which was popular from the 1930s and resurged strongly in the 1950s1980s.
