Description: This collection contains selections from WHO'S AFRAID OF THE ART OF NOISE, MOMENTS IN LOVE, and INTO BATTLE. Art Of Noise: Gary Langan, Anne Dudley, J.J. Jeczalik. For three years Anne Dudley, J.J. Jeczalik, Gary Langan and Trevor Horn endlessly remixed a collection of found sounds, rhythms, melodies and thematic motifs into a number of releases for Horn's ZTT Records. After the other three split from Horn in 1985, themes from these recordings constantly reappeared in their work, but it was not until 1998 that these original recordings were reissued on CD. The 16-song DAFT contains almost all of the groundbreaking 1983 EP INTO BATTLE, the wellspring for all future AoN projects, along with several stray singles and a good-sized chunk of 1984's WHO'S AFRAID OF THE ART OF NOISE. Among the brilliant tracks are the dreamily lush "Moments In Love," the bizarre vocal cut-ups of "The Army Now" and the influential hits "Beat Box" and "Close (To the Edit)." This CD, both avant-garde and accessible, is the purest example of montage in popular music.
