Hard cover with jacket, 56 pages, text and 30 b/w photographs, published in 1956 by A.A. Balkema, Cape Town. Book is in very good condition. Jacket has tears and paper loss at top front edge near spine and near bottom corner. Jacket now covered with removable plastic film. The picture on the front flap is missing. American born Arthur Elliott found his destiny in South Africa. As a photographer he recorded the architecture and daily life of the Cape. He took over 10 000 photographs of Cape Dutch architecture, leaving an unrivalled pictorial record of early 20th century buildings at the Cape. Today the collection is known as the Elliott Collection and is available to the people of South Africa. Elliott passed away in 1948. This book is a memoir of a remarkable man and his photographs.
