ARTHUR WOOD BECAME ARTHUR WOOD & SON IN 1924 WHEN SON GERALD JOINED THE BUSINESS AND THE OFFICIAL NAME WAS CHANGED TO ARTHUR WOOD & SON, LONGPORT Ltd IN 1928. THE COMPANY WAS GENERALLY UNKNOWN BEFORE THIS TIME BUT BY THE 1930's AND 1940's HAD PURCHASED OTHER POTTERIES AND BECAME LISTED AS THE ARTHUR WOOD GROUP AS A PUBLIC COMPANY. IN 1967 CARLTON WARE WAS ACQUIRED AND SOLD AGAIN IN 1987 TO COUNTY POTTERIES. IN 2003 THE ARTHUR WOOD GROUP WENT INTO ADMINISTRATION AND WAS PURCHASED BY RAYWARE Ltd

THIS ITEM IS A CERAMIC BEER TANKARD WHICH WAS MANUFACTURED BY ARTHUR WOOD AS PART OF THE CHARLES DICKENS SERIES. THE TANKARD IS DESIGNED WITH THE CLASSICAL FLARED BASE BUT WITH A PROMINENT GOLD BAND AROUND THE RIM, A C-SCROLL HANDLE WITH GOLD BANDS AND PERIOD IMAGES ON BOTH SIDES DEPICTING SCENES FROM THE DICKENS NOVEL OLIVER TWIST - "OLIVER ASKS FOR MORE" AND - "MARY AND THE FAT BOY"

THIS IS A COLLECTABLE ITEM WHICH IS ALSO DECORATIVE OR FUNCTIONAL IN A HOME BAR SETTING
