Stark, Simple and Powerful Fall and Winter Wear

Straight from the runways of Paris, Milan, New York, and London, here¿s our top pick for hot fashion trends of 2013. Have a look and decide which of these trends you're going to make your own this year.

2013 Fashion Colours

First things first, what colours are going to be in this year? Take it from the experts,  coral, teal, purple, orange, taupe, emerald, poppy red, aqua blues, neon pink, chartreuse green, grey and black/white combos were seen on fashion ramps the world over. So you should have no trouble finding items in these colours in your local stores or online this autumn/winter.

Ruffles: Anything frilly and flouncy is going to be hot this year. Be it a ruffle accent shirt, flamenco-style dresses, or a frilly bag or belt, this ultra-feminine and chic look will be everywhere. We recommend a cute top in with a ruffled neckline that you can dress up (with formal trousers) and down (with dark wash denims).

Sheer fabric: Organza, georgette, silk and crepe. This will be the year of soft, flowy and sheer fabrics. Kaftans, billowy tops, wide-leg casual trousers and all things lightweight are in.

Structured shoulders: Be it on blazers, formal suits, or jackets, or evening dresses, pointy shoulders with extra padding and other forms of detailing (studs, embroidery etc.) are going to be huge. This structured look makes for a more angular silhouette and adds length and dimension to your body.

Dramatic cut-outs: This will be the year of flirty clothes with a hint (or more!) of mischief. An otherwise modest blouse with a plunging slit down the middle, or an evening dress that covers you from head to toe but has a thigh-high split... it¿s all about the unexpected.

Bold stripes: Be it horizontal or vertical, you can¿t go wrong with stripes this year. Opt for stripes in dramatic and unexpected colours for maximum effect. Not just clothes, stripes are going to be worked into accessories, belts, shoes, bags, you name it.

Leather: Whether you like faux leather or the real thing, the leather look, especially in skirts and dresses, is here to stay in rich hues such as burgundy and the ever popular tan, brown and black.

This year, autumn-winter clothing trends are stark, simple and powerful. Play around with the hot colours of the year to figure out which ones work for you. Then, analyse your wardrobe, select a few of the above trends and look for pieces that go with at least three items already in your wardrobe.
Our top five picks: white ruffle shirt, deep burgundy faux leather skirt, striped dress in a grey-coral combo, a structured black blazer and wide-legged printed silk trousers.
